#268 Leap for Joy!

Today is Leap Day! What are you going to do with this "extra" day? So far I have worked feverishly at my desk. Seeing as it's 63 degrees outside, I plan to ditch the chaos for a while and take a nice walk outside. I hope you make the most of your day!

#267 Get Taller Through Surgery?!!

Today I read an article about a man who will eventually grow six inches through surgery.

I can maybe understand if you are really short, like under 5' tall, but he was already 5'6".

Thank you, Lord, for blessing me with my height for free!

#266 Your Time is Up, Chuck

January 27 was the series finale of Chuck.

I watched all five seasons and loved the show. And it brought Zachary Levi to my attention (see Post Nos. 27 and 86). I ended up taping the two-hour finale and the next weekend Paul, Lori and Megan came over for a watch party. I'll miss you Chuck! (And Sarah, Morgan, Casey, Ellie, Awesome, and all.)

#265 Frampton's Guitar Comes Alive!

Check out this amazing story about Peter Frampton's lost Gibson Les Paul custom guitar.

I've never been a huge Frampton fan because I was so young when he burst on the scene, but I do like his music and I like him. Over the years I've seen and heard interviews with him on Oprah and Bob & Tom, and more recently on CBS Sunday morning (February 19). He comes across as a very gracious and humble person (a bit of irony here with his first band being Humble Pie). He has lived in Cincinnati since 2000. Who would have thought you'd find Peter Frampton in Cincy?!

In the 70s-80s he was a heartthrob.

I think he looks way hotter now.

#264 You Are Not Alone

Saturday I went to the Nordstrom Rack for a supposed sale on larger shoe sizes. The store opened at 9 a.m.; I got there at 9:30 a.m. The size 12 section was filled with approximately 10 women already. Crazy! I saw a girl from my gym who's probably in her early 20s and around 6'2". We said hello and she said, "This makes me feel so good, like I'm not alone." Most of the women were in their 50s I would guess. The prices weren't that great, although I did buy two pair. I also found two tennis skirts for $13 each. Not bad!

After looking at women's shoes I walked through the men's shoe section to see if there were any tall, single men over there. I only saw one guy around my height, but he was the husband of a co-worker. Ha

#263 Talkin' 'Bout My Generation

During Super Bowl week, Paul, Lori and I went to the Super Bowl Village to see Darius Rucker. Due to the large crowd, we ended up watching him on the big screen on the far opposite side of where the stage was. He is great and we really enjoyed the show. Near the end, several college students stood in front/to the side of us and started singing along very loudly to "Hold My Hand." I think that was the only song of his they knew. After that song, one of the guys turned around and asked Paul, "Are you a Hootie fan?" Paul said, "No." (In Paul's defense, they were annoying. He also does not like to be bothered in public. Once at the Irvington Halloween festival, someone at one of the booths asked him if he was concerned about the jobless rate/the economy/whatever the issue was, and he replied, "No." and kept walking.)

To continue the story, the guy then asked me if I was a Hootie fan. I replied, "I am a Darius Rucker fan. He's not Hootie anymore." The guy then said, "For your generation he's Hootie." EXCUSE ME??!!! I was not happy to get my first generational comment. And you punks only know ONE SONG of his! That you can't even sing very well! Who sings this song? Darius (or even Hootie), so let him sing it! I am sorry to say these students were from Purdue.

#262 DO's and DONT'S of Romantic Comedies

I read this online article yesterday and thought it had pretty good advice, and was very timely with it being Valentine's Day today. In addition, several of my favorite movies are listed (the only one I've never seen is Hairspray). My favorite: Say Anything.

Enjoy! And Happy Valentine's Day! <3

#261 Christian Single

Some of you may remember that I joined eHarmony during the entire year of 2010(see Posts #76 and 77). I vowed to never do online dating again after that experience. Well, I had a moment of weakness and after seeing several cute, tall men on Christian Mingle I joined for three months. My subscription ironically ends today, the day before Valentine's Day. I feel a sort of liberation in marking this momentous event with a national holiday.

The Good - Overall, I give this site high marks. You can search on this site and they also send you matches, so you get the best of both worlds. The cost is also fairly reasonable.

The Bad - I didn't really find anything bad about this site. It's easy to use and there seem to be people who are more serious about finding a relationship rather than just hooking up. I sent messages to several guys throughout the three months. I met one (one and done), corresponded with a few and am still corresponding with one who lives out of state. I'm not sorry I did it, but have vowed, once again, to never do online dating again. I mean it this time!

The Ugly - to anyone (male or female) who does online dating, make sure you research the person thoroughly online before you meet them. This will save you much angst later on.

Good luck to all you single people out there!

#260 New Year for Marissa

Another update on Marissa - she had another surgery February 2. They removed 90 percent of the mass and she is doing way better than they expected. She already started speech and physical therapy and I believe she went home yesterday. Please continue to pray for her and her family/friends/doctors/therapists! I am praying that this is the year she is healed!

Check out more details on her blog (listed in my blog list).

#259 Memory Game

This morning I slept in and decided to go to the gym at lunch. Around 1:45 p.m., after I'd eaten my lunch and was walking down the hall at work, I realized that I had originally planned to go to the gym. At least I had good intentions...

#258 Pet Sematary

I watched part of Pet Sematary last night. I do like Stephen King books (Misery is probably my favorite) and do like this movie a lot. It also doesn’t hurt that one of my favorite actors is in it: Dale Midkiff. I think the first movie I saw him in was Dallas: The Early Years. He played Jock Ewing. He also played Elvis in Elvis and Me. I think he’s a great actor and dead sexy.

Creepy movie though – the little boy is so scary at the end with the scalpel. Ouch!!!

The movie also brings to mind one of my favorite songs by the Ramones.
